Interactive revenues have emerged over the past few years to become a major source of revenue growth for digital television:
  • Interactive TV services accounted for 8.7% of BSkyB's turnover during 2004/5, up 15% from the previous year and represented approximately £46 per subscriber per annum (BSkyB 2005 Annual report)
  • There are currently no significant interactive revenues earned from Freeview platforms, mainly due to limitations in their specification and the poor availability and utilisation of bandwidth.
History
Electra have created the unique 'Trove' suite of middleware products for DVB and IP applications. Uniquely Trove offers high quality interactive content delivery over multiple platforms from simple low cost SD DVB receivers through to fully interactive HD IPTV platforms.

Unlike other DVB technologies, Trove is stored locally in the STB or iDTV meaning that end users can access content more quickly and conveniently. Moreover in bandwidth sparse networks, such as digital terrestrial television, Trovefs technology consumes two orders of magnitude less bandwidth compared to other interactive television systems.

Trove also offers 'addressability' to individual products or groups of products providing significant advantages for commercial partners in terms of audience 'reach'. The Company delivers Trove services and content directly 'over air' or via ADSL.

Trove is the first in a range of patented products from Electra. Others include iTrove for hybrid DVB/IP systems and iTrove+ for MPEG-4 fully integrated digital and Internet delivered services including video and audio streaming.

Electra is part of a group of companies which includes the global PlayJam brand that provides games over many global TV platforms with an audience base in excess of 80 million.
